This is a great trip for families with some experience hiking! We hike 1.6 miles, (950 ' elevation gain) to the hut at a kid-friendly pace. Late fall hiking is awesome with views unobstructed by leaves, cool temperatures, and no bugs. We carry our sleeping bags, lunches and snacks, water and mountain gear. The group carries in supplies for dinner and breakfast and prepares it together in the hut kitchen. We have free time at the hut to explore, enjoy the breathtaking views of Franconia Ridge across the pristine glacial lake, and relax.
Join AMC Young Members (20s and 30s) for a 1-night backpack trip to the Twins (North Twin and South Twin) and Bonds (West Bond, Mount Bond, and Bondcliff) in the heart of the Pemigewasset Wilderness with (hopefully) excellent fall foliage. On Saturday we'll go up the Zealand Trail, hopping onto the Twinway to summit Guyot, then turning onto Bondcliff Trail to get to Guyot Campsite, where we'll set up camp. We'll then head over to the Bonds to enjoy the views before heading back to Guyot for the night.
Join us for a scenic 2 day/1 night backpack into the southern Green Mountains of Vermont. On Saturday, we will hike 7 miles through the Lye Brook Wilderness to the Bourn Pond area and set up camp. On Sunday morning, we will consider an optional hike for those interested to Stratton Pond and/or the summit of Stratton Mountain (approximately 10 miles round trip from the Bourn Pond campsite) before breaking camp and hiking out.
After leaving the Corporate world several years ago, I now split my time between work in retail and helping people enjoy the outdoors through hiking, camping, back packing.
Kick off your autumn hiking season with this overnight traverse of the Bonds (West Bond, Bond and Bondcliff) in the heart of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. By the last weekend of September the fall leaves should be turning bright in the White Mountains, and the wide-open above-treeline ridges of the Bonds are a great place to view them from. This hike is reasonably strenuous, covering 21 miles over two days, with cumulative elevation gain of approximately 3700 ft. The route goes 10 miles from the Zealand trail head over Zealand Mtn.

Stephen loves the outdoors, particularly in winter. He started hiking and backpacking as a teen and has not stopped since. He has hiked the NH 4000 footers several times in all seasons, and thru-hiked the AT in 2016. Stephen has led trips for the AMC for many years. He prefers backpacks (multi-day when his schedule allows), and hikes at a relaxed pace.
Join us in Peru! Peru, VT, that is, for a 23-mile backpacking weekend on the Long Trail as it overlaps with the Appalachian Trail. The longest day will be 13 miles, with a total of 5300' elevation gain total and 4300' elevation loss over the course of the weekend. We'll hit Glastenbury Mountain, which has some fantastic views. This is a great opportunity for strong hikers who are prepared to hike significant mileage with backpacking gear, even if they don't have much backpacking experience.
