Charles River Evening Paddle - Nahanton Park

Monday, June 25, 2018 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Join us for a relaxed evening flat water paddle on the Charles River in Newton.

Launch time is 6 pm. Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early to unload and prepare.
Boat rentals are available from Charles River Canoe and Kayak. If you are renting, please arrive early to allow time to do so.

PFD must be worn at all times.
Event is open to all paddlers.

Students will learn basic kayak strokes, maneuvers, and water safety skills on a local pond in Concord, then travel to the river during a weekend trip for a two-day instructional trip on Class 1-2 whitewater.

Introduction to Sea Kayaking: Hingham Harbor

Intended for those who have limited sea kayaking experience or want a refresher. This fast paced session will cover essential strokes, rescues, navigation, tides, and paddling near and across boating channels. It will take place in Hingham Harbor and will include paddling around some of the Harbor Islands. Basic kayaking skills are required, including the ability to confidently wet exit with a spray skirt. Expect a full day of instruction, training, and paddling. A 15 foot (minimum) kayak with fore and aft bulkheads, spray skirt, and PFD, are required.

Intermediate Sea Kayaking: Boston Harbor Instructional

Intended for intermediate sea kayakers who want to take their skills to the next level. This training session will cover paddling in wind and chop, use of skegs and rudders, rescues, navigation, tides, group cohesion, and crossing boating channels. It will take place in Boston Harbor and will include paddling around the Inner Harbor Islands. Intermediate sea kayaking skills are required, including the ability to re-enter your kayak with an assisted rescue. Expect a full day of instruction, training, and paddling.

Intro to Woods Hole by Kayak

Saturday, July 21, 2018 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Join us for a level 2 paddle at Woods Hole. This ~12 mile paddle will cross main channel to Hadley's harbor where we will play in some current in the gutters, then return across the channel to the launch. Woods Hole channel has strong currents and boat traffic. In addition, there may be strong (15-20 knot) tailwinds in the afternoon. This trip is ideal for those seeking to improve their paddling skills in moderate currents. Helmets are needed when playing around rocks and current.

Circumnavigate Naushon Island (Woods Hole)

Are you up for an ambitious paddle around Naushon Island? We'll paddle ~17 naughts at a 3.5mph pace (level 3). We'll get a tidal and tail wind push back in the afternoon and opportunity for surfing! This trip is not for casual paddlers - you'll need suitable boat, be able to keep up, and experience in following seas. Dead River Class 3 Whitewater

A summer favorite! The Dead River is an all day paddle along 15 miles of continuous whitewater in a wilderness location. Saturday 2400cfs, Sunday 1800 cfs
Camp for the weekend, and take a local shuttle to the put-in. Suitable for experienced paddlers with a Class lll rating/skills; Kayakers require a combat roll for this trip.
To signup, contact leader and provide a short summary of your paddling experience, including if you have paddled on the Dead River previously, and if so, list the water level.

Sea Kayak to Georges Island

Paddle from City Point to historic Georges Island and return. Opportunity to explore the island. Intermediate sea kayaking skills required. Must be able to paddle in moderate conditions such as 10 knot winds and 2 foot seas. The ability to get back into your kayak with an assisted rescue is required. Sea kayaks 15 ft minimum with front and rear bulkheads required. Approximately 12 miles.

Join us for a weekend camp adventure on Beal island in Maine. This trip is tailored for those that have not (or have) island camped out of a kayak. You will need paddling experience including wet exits and rescues as well as some camping experience with backpack or car (RV does not count).

Maine Islands Kayak and Camping Adventure

Paddle and camp in Casco bay in Maine. We establish a base camp and explore various islands including Jewell. Winds and weather can change these plans. This trip is for level 2 paddlers who can pack their own boat, launch, land, and maneuver a loaded kayak in variable ocean conditions and weather. Expect to paddle 8-12 miles each day at ~2.5 mph pace (moderate). Estimated cost is $50 for food.
