Local Walks/Hikes

Welcome to the AMC Boston Chapter Local Walks & Hikes homepage!

We lead day walks and hikes year-round, primarily in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. From exploring city neighborhoods, to nature talks/walks, on to moderate half day hikes in conservation lands and more challenging full day expeditions, we have something for all who enjoy walking and hiking, plus snowshoeing, weather permitting!

Our walks/hikes range in length from about 3 to 15 miles, over a variety of terrain, from smooth and flat, to rocky and hilly. A typical hike is 5 to 8 miles, along woodland trails over rolling terrain, and takes 4 to 5 hours, including lunch. The pace is usually moderate, allowing participants to socialize as they walk. Some of our hikes are hilly enough to be useful as conditioning hikes for the more rugged trails in the White Mountains or elsewhere.

There are so many places to explore in our region. Local Walks & Hikes is a great way to get to know these trails and to meet others. There are numerous ways to get involved, from going on hikes, to becoming a leader, to joining the Local Walks & Hikes Committee.

Please contact me or any members of our Committee with feedback, questions, or if you are interested in volunteering. I hope you will join us!

Happy trails,
