Couch to 4k is a series of hikes intended to introduce participants to the basic skills and knowledge required for safe and fun outdoor experiences. This program aims to be inclusive of all hikers, but is geared toward beginners and marketed as such. Hikes are organized into four levels of difficulty, starting with local walks with little elevation gain and culminating in treks up four-thousand-footers of New Hampshire.
Couch to 4k trip leaders will highlight important skills for safe hiking such navigation, hydration, nutrition, and proper attire. No dog is allow for the hikes.

Priority will be given to the program participants. Non-program participants will only be approved if there is spot available.
Come join us to hike Mt. Jefferson, New Hampshire's third tallest mountain. If the weather cooperates we will have amazing 360 degree views including Mount Washington to the south. We will climb Mt. Jefferson via an out and back on Caps Ridge Trail. The total mileage will be 5 miles and the elevation gain will be 2,760 feet. Even though we will be taking the easiest route to the summit, the trail is steep, rough, and involves scrambles over ledges. This hike is not a good choice for beginners, hikers who feel uncomfortable on rock slabs, or anyone with a fear of heights.

Alex enjoys hiking in all seasons. While best known for fast-paced single day, multi-peak mega-hikes and gnarly back country bushwhacks, he will enjoy sharing his love for the mountains just about anywhere, with hikers at all ability levels.
Justin can be found hiking year round in the White Mountains. He completed the 48 NH 4000 footers in 2017 and is currently pursuing the Terrifying 25 list. Other interests include running, bicycling and golfing.

Participants will enjoy a weekend of canoeing, kayaking, sitting by cabins or camp fires, playing games, and having a grand ole time! A couple of 'led' activities will be offered but mostly this will be an unstructured weekend to socialize, exercise, and relax! This is a perfect getaway for AMC newbies and veterans alike.
