Join the Young Members Google Group: Spontaneous Outings and Socials (SOS). SOS includes local hikes, walks, nature trips, socials, talks, workshops, etc., within the Boston area. The goal is to bring like-minded people together and encourage exploration, enjoyment, and appreciation of local open spaces and environmental issues. Trips and socials will be emailed 3-5 days in advance and will include meeting location, required equipment, skill level, and duration.
The AMC Boston Young Members (YM) Committee is dedicated to encouraging people in their 20s and 30s to get involved in the AMC and enjoy the outdoors. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers interested in becoming involved with the Committee. If you have attended a few YM events and are interested in exploring opportunities to contribute to the steering committee, please contact us at email@example.com.
Descriptions of typical YM Steering Committee and Volunteer positions can be found at this link:
Sean has been hiking with the AMC for four years now. He is currently working on his Northeast 111, which includes all 48 4000'ers in New Hampshire and all 46 4000'ers in the Adirondacks. When he's not hiking, you'll see him running half-marathons, marathons, triathlons or working out with November Project.
Join us for a night of board games and card games to remember! Bring your favorite board game or come to play something you haven't before. Game night will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; come for whatever time frame works for you. There may be light snacks but you should plan on figuring out dinner plans on your own. Feel free to bring food for yourself or to share.
Shannon is a 3-season leader with Young Members. She's happy to lead hikes, backpacks, and nordic ski trips in the whites or locally. She'll also recite a poem if you request it.
Join AMC Young Members for a fall foliage hike over some of the most scenic mountains in the Whites: Mt Flume and Mt Liberty! This 9.8 mile hike ascends the scrambly Flume slide trail and descends the gentle Liberty Springs trail, for a total elevation gain of 3,677 feet. For those of you who are peak-bagging, the summits of Mt. Flume & Mt. Liberty are both over 4,000 ft. The trail features multiple water crossings and some advanced scrambling.
Join Boston's AMC young members to volunteer at a Mass Audubon site and organic farm in Lincoln! We will help with chores from 1:30 to 4:00 and can also explore their wildlife sanctuary afterwards. During our trips last year we weeded the carrot patch, planted broccoli, and picked potatoes and green beans. We accomplished a lot and had a great time!
Join AMC hike leader Michele Grzenda and Bay Circuit Trail Volunteer, Kristin Barbieri for a 2 hour hike (3 miles) along a portion of the new Bay Circuit Trail segment in Wayland and Weston. Diverse hiking trails abutting red maple swamps and upland forests provide countless opportunities for exploration. We will also be highlighting the newest section of the Mass Central Rail Trail along the Weston/Wayland line. (this is cross-posted with that Bay Circuit Alliance Annual Membership Meeting)
Michele has been a volunteer hike leader for AMC since 2006. She enjoys connecting people with nature and is one of the lucky few who have made her avocation her vocation. By weekday, Michele protects wetlands and manages 2,000 acres of Open Space for Weston, MA. Besides leading backpacks, nature walks, and hikes for AMC, Massachusetts Audubon Society, & other local non-profits, Michele can be found on rainy nights in spring, helping frogs & salamanders cross the road on the way to vernal pools
Join AMC Young Members, along with the Somerville Conservation Commission and the Mystic River Watershed Association to pick up trash at Draw Seven Park as part of the annual statewide COASTSWEEP cleanup. Draw Seven State Park, along the Mystic River next to Assembly Square, is Somerville's only coastal property!
Join Boston's AMC young members to volunteer at Mass Audubon's Drumlin Farm and Wildlife Sanctuary! We will help work on the gardens around the Nature Center and gift shop. We will cut down the gardens for winter maintenance and remove some invasive plants that self-sowed there. Afterwards, we can also explore the farm and wildlife sanctuary.
