Lye Brook Wilderness - Foliage Backpack Experience

Trip dates: Saturday, October 6, 2018 12:00 AM to Sunday, October 7, 2018 12:00 AM

Join us for a scenic 2 day/1 night backpack into the southern Green Mountains of Vermont. On Saturday, we will hike 7 miles through the Lye Brook Wilderness to the Bourn Pond area and set up camp. On Sunday morning, we will consider an optional hike for those interested to Stratton Pond and/or the summit of Stratton Mountain (approximately 10 miles round trip from the Bourn Pond campsite) before breaking camp and hiking out. Our route will take us past Lye Brook Falls (Vermont's tallest waterfall) and also feature scenic views, a variety of hardwood trees, shimmering ponds, the possibility for abundant wildlife, and swimming for those who wish. The round trip loop to Bourn Pond (excluding Stratton Mountain is approximately 14.8 miles and 2500 feet of elevation gain. Participants will be responsible for their own meals throughout the weekend and all gear required for 3 season backpacking. The intent of this hike is to take a slower pace, enjoy the Vermont foliage in it's prime, sleep under the stars, explore nature and "ask the naturalist" (who will be along as a co-lead). This trip will be cancelled in the event of bad weather - a determination of which will be made the week of the trip.

Directions will be provided through REGI to approved participants.
