This is a beautiful traverse over two open peaks, North Pack (2290') and South Pack Monadnock (2276') Mountains in Peterborough, NH. From both summits we will have long sweeping views many consider superior to the vistas of mountains to the north. We will hike approximately 5.8 miles with 1,350' elevation gain (6 hours to allow time to enjoy the views and lunch). "Pack" is the Indian word meaning "little" as these mountains are "little" compared to Mt. Monadnock,.
We will meet at the terminus of our hike at Miller State Park at 9 am to shuttle to our trailhead. We will hike the yellow blazed Wapack trail 1.5 miles to the summit of North Pack (962' elevation gain, 2 hours) and then take the scenic blue blazed Cliff Trail 1.2 miles (1 hour to enjoy) with excellent views toward the southern Wapack Range and Grand Monadnock. From there we will follow the Wapack Trail 1.7 miles to the summit of South Pack Monadnock with its' fire tower and sweeping views. We will take the easier Marian Davis Trail down 1.4 miles (1 hour).
