Join us for a moderately paced hike to the summit of Mount Garfield. We will hike 12.5 miles round trip, with 2,959 feet of elevation gain to a summit of 4,500 feet. Portions of the route are relatively steep, at the top we will experience some above-tree line exposure. If the weather is clear we should find terrific views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness and Franconia Ridge. Full winter gear will be required for this trip, including snowshoes, microspikes and crampons. Because in the winter the trailhead is closed we will need to park off of RT 3 and walk in another 1.25 miles, increasing the round trip distance of the hike from 10 to 12.5 miles. This trip is appropriate for WHP '18-'19 graduates, additionally to others with past winter hiking experience.
