Join us for a weekend of cross country skiing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in northern Vermont. Craftsbury has the largest XC ski network in New England along with hiking trails on site, a gym, yoga classes, and more. The registration fee includes 2 nights lodging in newly built cabins (triple occupancy). This trip is generally geared toward at least intermediate level XC skiers, however inquire with the leaders if you are a beginner.

Learn to use AT (Alpine Touring) ski equipment for uphill travel in a safe learning environment.
Join us for a moderately paced hike to the summit of Mount Garfield. We will hike 12.5 miles round trip, with 2,959 feet of elevation gain to a summit of 4,500 feet. Portions of the route are relatively steep, at the top we will experience some above-tree line exposure. If the weather is clear we should find terrific views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness and Franconia Ridge. Full winter gear will be required for this trip, including snowshoes, microspikes and crampons.
A 4-Season Boston AMC Leader. Completed the 48 New Hampshire 4000 footers in winter. More than 350 White Mountain 4000' summits, 150+ in winter. Trained in the Boston AMC Winter Hiking Program. Summited 14,410' Mt. Rainier in June 2016 and July 2017, 14,505' Mt. Whitney July 2018 with an AMC team. Wilderness first aid certified. 2017 4-Season Leader of the Year.

A moderately paced loop hike over three 4000 footers overlooking Crawford Notch: Field, Willey, & Tom. Approximately 10 miles. 3600' of elevation. Suitable for current or previous WHP participants. Previous/recent winter hiking experience and full winter gear required.

9:30am-2:30pm. Meet at Grassy Hill parking lot off Nagog Hill Rd, Acton (see links below), S side of Nagog Hill Rd. From Rte.2, exit Rte.27 N toward Acton for 1.1mi., L Nagog Hill Rd. for 1.2mi to Grassy Pond pkg. area on L. This 7½ mi. route wanders through a portion of Acton's Nagog Hill area, hugs the shore of Nagog Pond, loops through the hilly Sarah Doublet area in Littleton where we plan to have lunch and offer an optional excursion to Fort Pond via a short spur trail. Our return covers the remaining portion of Nagog Pond. Snowshoes may be necessary.
Join us Sunday evening January 13 from 6 - 8 pm at the Auburndale Library in Newton for our Family Outings Committee and Trip Planning Meeting. Light refreshments. Public meeting open to all. Great opportunity to get to know the group. 6 - 6:30 or 7 pm we discuss committee business and Beginner Hiking Program and other larger events coming up. This is followed by a general trip planning. Bring your ideas. Teens welcome to join. Younger kids welcome but they will need to be able to entertain themselves quietly. Our meeting and trip planning agenda is more for adults.

Join us for a night of board games and card games to remember! Bring your favorite board game or come to play something you haven't before. Game night will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; come for whatever time frame works for you. There may be light snacks but you should plan on figuring out dinner plans on your own. Join us for an exhilarating winter backpack traverse of the Twins & Bonds! We'll get an early start on Saturday morning. After spotting cars, we'll hike over the Twins and continue on to Guyot tent site. Weather permitting, we'll do a quick out and back to enjoy a spectacular sunset on West Bond. We'll hike a total of 11-12 miles with over 3500 ft of elevation on this challenging day. On Saturday night, if the shelter is available, we will not need to set up tents. On Sunday, we will traverse Mt.
Zealand hut in the Winter..

Join us on a combination ski-hike up Mount Hale; we will cross-country ski out on the closed road, then drop our skis and head up the mountain on foot. Must have experience with cross country skiing and winter hiking. Snowshoes, microspikes, and skis required. Approximately 5 miles of skiing and 5 miles of hiking round trip.
Day skiing at Ragged Mtn (NH) - a small, family owned resort about 2 hours drive from Boston. Ragged offers a variety of trails from easy to advanced with ungroomed trails and glades. Join us for a fun-filled ski weekend in Stowe, Vermont. Participants can cross-country ski at two of New England's best Nordic ski areas: The Trapp Family Cross Country Center and the Stowe Mountain Cross Country Center. There will also be a group enjoying downhill skiing at The Stowe Ski Resort (Mt. Mansfield). Many people choose to do one day of each! Experience in skiing is preferred. Cross country skiers will be going at an easy to moderate pace on Advanced Beginner to Difficult trails at Stowe and Von Trapp Lodge.

Join AMC Family Outings for a fun relaxed Winter Weekend roughly 2 ½ hours north of Boston at Calumet lodge & cabins. This trip is targeted to families with younger children, 8 & under, but kids all ages are welcome AMC members and non-members alike. On the edge of Lake Ossipee, Calumet offers hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, and x-c skiing at our doorstep, and optional DH skiing nearby. Adults relax while kids build snowmen and snow angels and play outdoor basketball and broom ball at the covered pavillion.
Join us for a weekend of day trips - novice (easier) to intermediate backcountry ski tours - in the White Mountain National Forest between the Kancamagus Highway and Waterville Valley. Hilly, gently rolling, to flat terrain to be encountered. Must have intermediate cross country ski skills with downhill control/strong snowplow. Trails such as Greeley Ponds, Kancamagus Brook, Livermore Road, and Tripoli Road are likely destinations; leaders reserve the right to make changes pending actual trail, weather, and snow conditions. Lodging in Town Square Condos at Waterville Valley.
Aldo has been a free heel skier since the mid-1970s. He enjoys cross country skiing at xc ski areas and backcountry locations, and downhill skiing with telemark gear. He also enjoys snowshoeing, cycling, canoeing, and kayaking. He has volunteered for several years with the AMC Boston Chapter Ski Committee, first as Trip Coordinator, then as the Committee Chair. He has led ski trips for several years.
Mike Barry is a reformed alpine skier who leads multi day XC Ski tours in Maine, Quebec, Norway and the Whites with the Boston Chapter & Adventure Travel Committees. His favorite places to ski are Norway for BC touring (though Maine is close!) and downhill in the French Alps (now on Telemark skis). Mike has been involved in the Club as a Boston Chapter Chair, Club Board of Directors and is currently on the Adventure Travel Committee, and is an active chapter bike and ski leader.
Build or maintain winter hiking skills and experience (or work on your winter 48 summits or grid) with a moderately-paced winter hike to Mt. Waumbek. On the way, we'll tag Starr King (52 with a view). Aimed at previous or current Winter Hiking Program participants, this 7.2 miles, 2900-foot elevation gain hike will offer an opportunity to summit a 4,000 footer in winter with little above-treeline exposure. Previous winter hiking experience, good fitness level, and full winter gear required.
The trip starts and ends in Greenville, Maine in the Moosehead Lake area. The x-c skiing is 6-8 miles each day, going between the four lodges/camps - Gorman Chairback Lodge, Little Lyford Lodge, West Branch Pond Camps, and Medawisla Lodge (2 nights here). Gear is transported for us between each lodge. The skiing is on groomed (but not tracked) trails. It is suitable for intermediate skiers who are in reasonably good shape - not suitable for beginners. Meals are included beginning with dinner on Feb 4 through breakfast on Feb 9.

The Backcountry Ski Workshop offers a chance for backcountry skiers of all disciplines and levels to tour in the backcountry and learn new skills. Whether you are a novice who wants to learn the fundamentals, or an expert looking to refine your skills, this weekend will have something to offer you. There will be groups for Nordic backcountry, telemark and alpine touring, offering basic instruction as well as more advanced groups focused on a full day of touring.
Ski where the snow is! Join us for cross country skiing in Stowe Vt, home to the finest network of groomed cross country trails in New England. Cost of $160 pp includes 2 hot breakfasts & 2 nights lodging (double rooms) at a comfortable inn with hot tub & pool. Single room option for additional fee. There will be guided intermediate level cross country outings; location dependent upon conditions. Downhill skiing on own with other interested participants.
Annual Ski & Games Nordic Skiing with downhill option at Bretton Woods. Feb 8-10 Stay at the Highland Center at Crawford Notch, just minutes away from Bretton Woods Nordic Center. Bring board or other games to play in the evening. Intermediate level trip. $220-$320 per person, depending on the room type: 2 persons per room with private bath, 4 or so per room with shared bath. Fees include Sat/Sun breakfasts, Sat dinner, 2 nights' lodging and linens/towels, shared or private bath. Cross-listed with Intro and Ski committees. Carla Schwartz has a strong appreciation for the outdoors, and is an avid XC skier, cyclist, and long-distance swimmer. She has been leading XC ski and bicycling trips for the AMC Boston Chapter since 2004. She enjoys showing people places she loves and her trips have a strong following.
